BBC Celebrity and QI Presenter Stephen Fry has not spared RIM's answer to Apple's iPhone, the Blackberry Storm, as he heavily criticised the Canadian manufacturer for rushing out what he calls an "unfinished" product.
Fry, who used his Twitter page to disseminate his caustic thoughts about the Storm, went on to say that it was "shockingly bad. I mean embarrassingly awful. Such a disappointment", adding "Yes,I blame n'works more than RIM. Problems are terrible lag: inaccurate t'screen, awful, slow and fiddly text input. I SO wanted to like it" and ending with another "Plus the GPS maps won't work - issue with BIS connections. I see from forums postings this is widespread in the UK. iPhone killer? Ha!"
He went on to say that he has yet to play with the G1 mobile phone from HTC, which he acknowledged, looks rather horrid but might be saved by the Operating system (Android).
Stephen Fry played Jeeves in TV series Jeeves and Wooster, the Valet/Butler who has inspired who inspired Ask Jeeves (aka Ask.com), the search engine, and is a huge Apple fan.
Interestingly, since the twit was posted, Stephen Fry added nearly 2500 followers to reach almost 22500, that's a 12 percent stunning increase in less than a week, and proof that publicity is always a good thing.
It also goes a long way to show the power of Email-meet-Text, "persistent" instant messaging services like Tumblr or Twitter, in establishing unique relationships between an author and his/her audience.
