Apple Inc. has been slapped with a ‘patent-infringement’ lawsuit by EMG Technology, which claims that the Apple is infringing on its patent that relates to the manner in which iPhone browses the internet.

Incidentally the lawsuit has been filled in the US District Court in Tyler, Texas by EMG Technology, a Los Angeles-based company.

The company alleges in its lawsuit that the browsing technology which iPhone employs to navigate and display reformatted versions of websites specially designed for mobile phone interface, infringes on a patent obtained by company’s founder Gottfurcht last month.

Awarded in last month, patent number 7,441,196, includes 76 claims, ranging from the display of web content reformatted from HTML to XML on mobile handsets, to technology for scrolling and zooming.

The patent application was filed by EMG Technology on 13 March, 2006, and received acceptance on 21 October, 2008.

Though some other mobile handset makers, including Research in Motion, the maker of Blackberry, and HTC Corp., maker of T-mobile’s G1 phone, also use the same browsing technology, EMG is has only considered suing Apple for patent-infringement, Stanley Gibson, Gottfurcht’s lawyer stated.

“We haven't looked at anything other than the iPhone. That was the device that we looked at. Obviously it's very popular”, Gibson said in a statement.
